So maybe, just maybe, it is not always the receivers' fault when the ball is coming at you like a Phil Neikro flutterball. Same thing works when throwing a football. Ask a big league pitcher what happens to a thrown baseball when you release the ball off your middle finger and put no pressure on the index finger? Thus, the Slider is born.

That was why so many people would say "the ball looks funny coming out of his hand." It did because nobody ever coached him how to release the football. Sometimes his index finger would be completely off the ball when he released it. KB2 was the worst I ever saw because he never released the ball off his index finger. If you have an old game Tivo'd with DW4 throwing, do the same thing and you will see what I mean. Even at regular speed on the DVR you can see the white laces as they rotate around the ball. The ball comes out with the nose up with a slight wobble and by the time it reaches the receiver, the nose is down. Sometime when you have a Clemson game on Tivo, watch the pass in slomo as it leaves the QB's hand. Why? I don't have a clue.I just know it is true from experience and from what I have seen and also done as a collegiate QB. Any receiver will tell you that this thing feels like a bowling ball when it hits your hands. On the other hand, there are QB's who throw a ball with less spin, nose down slightly and with a little wobble. Seldom are their passes dropped and receivers will tell you that they loved playing with a QB who throws that way. Their passes seem to just float through the air, even though they are sometimes fired with great velocity. Some modern examples of this talent would be Montana, Tua, Snake Stabler just to name a few. Some QB's have the gift of throwing a football that is always a perfect spiral with a high spin rate with the nose ever so slightly up which makes it feel "light" to the receiver and easy to catch.

I have never caught a pass from DJ, so I could not say for sure but just watching his release and ball flight, I would imagine his passes feel like a medicine ball or a bowling ball when they hit your hands.
